State Scholarships

Big 33 Academic Scholarship Award Program- The Big 33 Scholarships provide financial assistance to high school seniors who exhibit excellence in a well rounded educational and extracurricular program.  Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, community service, financial need, leadership, obstacles overcome, special talents and unique endeavors.  Student must be a high school senior enrolled in a public or accredited private school in Ohio or Pennsylvania; attained a 2.0 on a 4.0 scale for the previous two academic years (grades 10 and 11); and plans to continue his/her education beyond high school in an accredited institution of higher education or technical school.  http://www.jamestown.k12.pa.us/construction.html

Big 33 Nursing Scholarship- provides financial assistance to high school seniors who exhibit excellence in a well-rounded educational and extracurricular program.  Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, community service, financial need, leadership, obstacles overcome, special talents and unique endeavors.  Student must be a high school senior enrolled in a public or accredited private school in Ohio or Pennsylvania, attained a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale for the previous two academic years (grades 10 and 11), and plan to continue his/her education beyond high school in a accredited institution of higher education or technical school.

Big 33 Waste Management Scholarship- As a major sponsor of the Big 33, Waste Management is committed to supporting their efforts to provide financial assistance to high school seniors who have exhibited excellence in the area of environmental preservation.  Student must be a high school senior enrolled in a public or accredited private school in Ohio or Pennsylvania; attained a 2.0 on a 4.0 scale for the previous two academic years (grades 10 and 11); and plans to continue his/her education beyond high school in an accredited institution of higher education or technical school.

Horatio Alger Association Scholarship- (100 $2,500 Scholarships awarded and funded through the generosity of Joseph & Jeanette Neubauer of the Neubauer Family Foundation) To be eligible to apply for the Horatio Alger Pennsylvania Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:  be enrolled as a full time high school senior, progressing normally toward graduation, and planning to enter college no later than the fall following graduation; have a strong commitment to pursue a bachelor’s degree at an accredited institution (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution); critical financial need ($50,000 or less adjusted gross income per family is preferred, if higher explanation must be provided); involvement in co-curricular and community activities; demonstrate academic achievement (minimum grade point average of 2.0); be a resident of Pennsylvania; and be a citizen of the United States or be in the process of becoming a U.S. citizen.

Lebanon Valley Youth College Daniel Fox Youth Scholars Institute- Applications are available in the guidance office.

Pennsylvania Association Of Community Bankers Foundation Scholarship- (Four $1000 renewable scholarships)- The goal of the PACB Foundation is to provide scholarships to children of PACB member institution’s employees and directors.  It is the Foundation’s desire to not only be a part of helping students financially, but also to take an active role in developing tomorrow’s leaders.  Student must be a high school senior; be a legal dependent of either a PCAB member bank employee (working a minimum of 1,000 hours annually) or of a director of a PCAB member institution; plan to attend an accredited post-secondary school (colleges, universities and community colleges) full time and complete application, including an essay. In addition, an interview will be conducted.  

Pennsylvania Association of Educational Professionals Scholarship- (Two $500 scholarships) This scholarship was established in 1992 to assist students pursing higher education.  Criteria used in the selection process include scholastic achievement, motivation for higher education, leadership, citizenship, service to the school and community and financial need.  Student must be a high school senior and complete application.  Field of specialization:  Secretarial, office technology, accounting, business education and business education teaching.

The Pennsylvania Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (PBFAA) Scholarship- a Chartered State Association of the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA).- (One $500 regional award from each of PBFAA’s five geographic regions, one $1,000 first place state award and one $500 second place state award and one $6,500 first place national award and one $3,500 second place national award). Scholarships are awarded on the regional, state and national levels.  PBFAA is the state trade association for professional burglar and fire alarm companies.  Members are companies that design, sell, install, maintain and monitor electronic burglar and fire alarm systems.  The scholarship is a way for the industry to thank the dedicated public safety community and to help pay for advanced education. Student must be a high school senior; have a father, mother or legal guardian who is a full-time active fire or police employee and not on disability; parent or guardian must be a member of the police or sheriff’s department or a full-time paid or volunteer member of a fire department in Pennsylvania; submit proof of acceptance to a college or university (letter acceptable); submit proof of parent’s occupation (ID or supervisory letter acceptable) and complete application and essay.

Pennsylvania Elks “Most Valuable Student”-For the 2006 Most Valuable Student Scholarship Competition, the Elks National Foundation will award 500 four-year scholarships to be administered over the 2006-07 through 2009-10 academic years. Male and female students compete separately for identical awards. The amounts are as follows: 2 First-Place Awards of $60,000 ($15,000 per year); 2 Second-Place Awards of $40,000 ($10,000 per year); 2 Third-Place Awards of $20,000 ($5,000 per year); 494 Fourth-Place Awards of $4,000 ($1,000 per year); Total of $2,216,000. The contest is for high school seniors who are U.S. citizens; college students are not eligible. You do not need to be related to an Elks member. Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week- This program is designed for high school sophomores and juniors to learn more about career opportunities.  The camp is 7 days in length and takes place during the summer months on the Lycoming College Campus, Willamsport, PA.  Scholarships are available.

Pennsylvania Land Surveyors’ Foundation, Inc. Scholarship-(Seven scholarships (three @ $3,000, two @ $2,000 and two @ $1,000) will be awarded.  The amounts will be paid as lump sum awards.)  The Pennsylvania Land Surveyors’ Foundation, Inc. is an affiliate of the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors.  The goal of the organization is to promote, improve and encourage the profession and practice of land surveying in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  Student must be a high school senior; plan to pursue higher education at a two-year or four-year institution; be a citizen of the United States and a resident of Pennsylvania and complete application.  Students must be entering a Two-year surveying technology program or four-year Bachelor of Science program in land surveying.

The Pennsylvania New Economy Technology Scholarship (NETS) offered by: The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE). (Technology scholarships provide up to $1,000 per year based on total educational costs.)  Technology scholarships are offered to prepare students to succeed in the new, technology-based economy of the 21st century, and to stem the migration of Pennsylvania’s young people to other states.  Student must be a high school senior; resident of the Commonwealth of PA; be enrolled in an approved science or technology program at an approved Pennsylvania community college, two or four year college or a licensed technical institute; begin employment in the state within one year after completion of studies, one year for each year the scholarship was awarded and apply for a Federal Pell Grant and Pennsylvania State Grant.

Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union (PSECU) Scholarship- (Six scholarships of $4,000 each will be awarded.)  Student must be a high school senior planning to enter a two or four- year college or university; be a member of PSECU by the date specified on the application; compile a list of school, work, civic and other activities including awards, honors and part-time employment (note the number of hours of involvement); and compose a typed, double-spaced essay.

The Pennsylvania State Foster Parent Association (PSFPA) Scholarship- (Scholarships of $500 are awarded with the highest qualifying applicant receiving $1,000.)  This scholarship is offered annually to convey that the association believes in students.  Student must be a high school senior planning to pursue post-secondary education; be a foster child, adoptive child or biological child of PSFPA and complete application and essay.

Pennsylvania State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution Scholarship- The amount of the scholarship will be determined by the organization.)  The Pennsylvania State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution offers this scholarship on the basis of academics, recommendations and financial need.  No affiliation or relationship with the DAR is necessary to qualify for the scholarship.  Student must be a high school senior enrolled in an accredited, registered, approved or licensed school; resident of Pennsylvania; planning to attend an accredited college or university which confers associate or bachelor degrees; and agrees to acknowledge the scholarship in a letter to the State Chairman.   

Phi Delta Kappa International and Phi Delta Kappa Educational Foundation Scholarship- (A minimum of 30 scholarships will be awarded- twenty seven $1000 grants, one $2000 grant, one $4000 grant, and one $5000 grant.  Two of the 30 grants will be awarded to dependents of Kappans.)  Phi Delta Kappa International has established this scholarship to support future educational careers.  The criteria used in the selection process are academic standing, school and community activities and the student’s essay and letters of recommendation.  Student must be a high school senior; and complete application and essay.  Students must be education majors.

PHEAA Academic Excellence Scholarship Award Program- ($1500)-This scholarship is available to seniors who have applied for the Robert C. Byrd Scholarship Program, but did not receive the scholarship. This scholarship program is open to seniors who are ranked in the top 5% of their class or hold a ranking of 1, 2, or 3 in a class of 60 students or less. Applicants must have GPA of 3.50 or above on an unweighted 4.00 scale, and a SAT score = 1150 combined critical reasoning and math only or an ACT score of 25 or above.  The student must be a Pennsylvania resident, be enrolled  full-time at a PHEAA approved Pennsylvania postsecondary school following graduation, and be a Pennsylvania Sate grant recipient for at least one term during his/her freshman year.

Robert C Byrd Scholarship Program-($1500 per year of not less than 1 or more than 4 years during the first 4 years of undergraduate study at any eligible institution of higher education)- This scholarship program is open to seniors who are ranked in the top 5% of their class or hold a ranking of 1, 2, or 3 in a class of 60 students or less. Applicants must have GPA of 3.50 or above on an unweighted 4.00 scale, and a SAT score = 1150 combined critical reasoning and math only or an ACT score of 25 or above.
